INTRODUCTION
First Kaspa (KASP) ASIC producer Iceriver announced the Iceriver KS0 PRO ASIC miner to replace their entry-level KS0 device. The Iceriver KS0 miner, no longer available on the official website, could provide 100 GH/s KAS mining hashrate with 65 Watts of power consumption by default, but an unauthorized firmware allowed users to overclock it to 160 GH/s with 100+ Watts. Overclockability likely led to the official release of a KS0 PRO version with 200 GH/s at 100 Watts, somewhat more hashrate with less power consumption than the OC form. Despite consuming half the electricity, Iceriver KS0 PRO ASIC miners outperform OC performance with double the KS0's stated hashrate.
WE CHOOSE ICERIVER KS0 PRO
IceRiver KS0 PRO should be considered a worthwhile update now that there is an unofficial overclock for the original miners and the network difficulty is rising. Replacements for the original KS0 should be the same price or lower. Iceriver has not yet announced the price of the KS0 PRO, the KS0's replacement. We expect the unit pricing to be between $500 and $600 USD, but we may be surprised. We'll have to wait to hear from Iceriver and order the new KS0 Pro devices.
Despite using 100 Watts of electricity, the new IceRiver KS0 PRO miners are passive (no active fan cooling). You should consider adding a cooling fan or situating the miner in a well-ventilated room with adequate consistent airflow. If the new item had a PCI-E power port, we could have used current computer power supplies instead of buying powerful laptop-type power bricks. Would Iceriver have done better with the KS0 Pro? Perhaps, but their growth is encouraging.
